WILD CATS


JAGUAR
The Jaguar is a large cat, which is also known as the Spotted King Cat. The Jaguar is hunted for it beautiful spotted pelt. There fur is short and is golden yellow with black broken rings.Some Jaguars have black fur. The pelts are used in making coats and Jackets A male can stand up to 30 in. tall at the shoulder and can weigh from 175lbs. to 250lbs. They are 6-8ft long. The female Jaguar is smaller than the male.The Jaguars from the Amazon region can be up 9ft long and can weigh up to 300lbs. The Jaguar lives in many different places in the world. They live in tropical lowlands, Mountainous, regions of the world. It also dwells in marsh land regions of the world.They live in places like Mexico, Central America, South America, and in some states in the United States of America. The places they live in the United States are Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. The Jaguar resembles the leopard in many ways. The Jaguar is different in many ways because the Jaguar is larger, more heavily built, and has a shorter tail than the leopard. The Jaguar is a animal that lives it life mostly in solitude. It often travels alone throughout the Jungle.while the Jaguar is on the trail it utters a low and guttural grunt. While at night it emits a deep roar.The Jaguar will not become aggressive unless it is provoked. Occasionally a Jaguar will attack a man. They prey on game such as Deer, Peccaries, tapirs, birds, monkeys, foxes, rodents and turtles.The Jaguar is a strong swimmer and it dugs up turtles eggs. The Jaguar has no fixed breeding season and the Females are ready to mate at 3 years old. The females are pregnant for 100 days. They have there kittens in a den, in the rocks or in dense brush. The females can have 2-4 kittens a litter. The kittens are heavily marked with black spots not black rings as the adults have. The family stay together until the kittens are one year old The life expectancy of a Jaguar is 20 years.



CARACAL
This is a cat that is found in Africa, India and Arabia.The Caracal is a slender Lynx like cat. It has a long tail,it has Shafftawny brown color fur. The Caracal is 16-18 inches tall, it is 2 1/2 ft long. It weighs up to 40lbs. This tiny cat can catch a small Deer along with the Gazelles, Pea Fowl Cranes, Hares and Game Birds.It can leaps 5 to 6 ft in the air to catch a meal. The Caracal can knock down 9 or 10 pigpens out of a flock that are feeding on the ground before they can fly away.In some places wealthy Indian keep Caracal as pets or use them for hunting. They raise there young in a hollow tree or crevices in rocks. They may also use abandon Aardvark or Porcupine burrows. They may have 2 to 5 cubs in each litter. The cubs look like the adults in color except the adults do not have spots on there underside like the cubs.



OUNCE
The Ounce is a spotted leopard like cat.The Ounce is Known as the Snow leopard but, this cat is not a true leopard. The Ounce is found in the highest mountains of the colder regions of Asia, the Himalayas,Tibet and the mountains of eastern Siberia.The Ounce is a beautiful spotted cat with it's long soft grayish fur. It has a small head, short face and spots on it's head. The Ounce a 3ft long tail, It's total body length is 6 1/2ft long. They prey on Goats,Hares and Small Game.



OCELOT
The Ocelot is an American Jungle cat. The Ocelot has camouflage against the leafy surroundings of the tropical and subtropical of it's home.The Ocelot calls home places that range from New Mexico to Northern Argentina. The Ocelot is a cat that is 16 in. tall at the shoulders and it weighs up to 35lbs. The Ocelot has short yellow fur with black spots or rings. They can climb trees and they hunt mostly after dark. The Ocelot runs like a fox. There food has to be freshly killed, it eats rabbits,rats,mice, monkeys, snakes and it occasional kills a small deer. If the Ocelot Lives near a village it will prey on chickens and ducks. They make there den in cave in a rock or in a hollow. The Ocelot line the den with grass they had chewed to make the den soft. The female Ocelot usually has twins born in September or October, they are born 4 months after mating. The Ocelot can become a good pet, if the cat was raised proper care from when the cat was born. Although the Ocelot should not be trusted with children.



SERVAL
The Serval is a Africa wild cat. It has long legs and a small head. The Serval is 4 1/2 ft long It has a tawn-buff colored fur with black spots. The Serval is a Nocturnal animal found in Africa's brush county.



BOBCAT
The Bobcat is known as the Bay Lynx or Wildcat. The Bobcat is found in Southern Canada, United States and Mexico. The Bobcat is 14in. high at the shoulder and is 3ft. long, including a 7in. tail. It can weigh 20-25lbs, it also resembles the Canadian Lynx. The Bobcat has a reddish-brown coat with darker spots or sorlines. They mainly like to eat Cottontail Rabbits, they also eat Snake, Mice, Rats, Birds, Ground Squire and Porcupine. The Bobcat occasionally preys small domestic stock and poultry. The Bobcat makes it's den in hollow tree, Rock shelter and dense thickets. They mate once a year after about 50 days about 4 kittens are born. They are blind at birth after 9 day there eyes open. The Bobcats are able to climb tree but they don't climb trees unless they are hunting for food or trying to escape from a pack of fast hounds. Bobcat hunting is a popular sporting southeastern United States.



PUMA
The Puma is compared to the Jaguar in size and strength. The Puma is found in Canada, South America, Central America and Mexico. The deer is it's main source of food. It has tawny or grayish color coat. A large male can weigh up to 170lbs. They can stand 25 to 30in. tall at the shoulder and are they are 6-8ft. long. The Puma sleeps in a cave or sunbathes on a rock during the day and it stalks prey at night. This is Nocturnal cat. The Puma can kill something 5 times it's size. If it can not finish what it killed it covers the rest with leaves till it is hungry again it comes and finishes it. The Puma's had no fixed mating season. During the mating you can hear the male uttering a loud bloodcurdling cry that can be heard up to 2 miles away. The female Puma's have 1 to 5 kittens in one litter. The kittens are about a foot long and weigh about 1lb. They are born with yellowish downy that has spots on it. There eye remain closed for 8 or 9 days. The kittens spots disappear after a year. The Puma has the life expectancy of about 15 years.



LYNX
The Lynx is called a true wildcat. It has long legs, tuffed ears and a short tail. There are servral types of the Lynx.These include the Canada Lynx, European Lynx, Bay Lynx or other wise known as the Bobcat, Caracal and the booted Lynx.All these cats are able to climb trees. I will tell you about the Canada Lynx and the European Lynx. The Canada Lynx lives in the evergreen forest in North America. The Canada Lynx has very large feet and during the winter they have extra long hairs covering the paws. During the winter the Lynx move over the snow in quickly long strides Because the cat would sink into the snow if it were to tried gallop. The Lynx is from 30 to 40in. long , it may be 24in. tall at the shoulder and it can weigh from 30 to 40lbs. The Lynx has retractile claws like a real cat the Canada Lynx has grayish-brown fur with dark lines or spots. This cat likes to eat mainly snowshoe rabbits and other hare. When there is not a large supple of hares the Canada Lynx may kill a Fox, it will occasionally kill a Deer, Caribou and a Mountain Sheep. The Canada Lynx mates during the late winter or early spring. The female Lynx has about 4 kittens 2 months later, The kittens are born in a nest of grass under a dense wind fall or a shelter of rocks. The kittens open there eyes after ten days. The mother Lynx nurses them for.2 to 3 months. By this time they are able to go with there mother on her hunting trips. By the fall the family has separated. The Lynx is considered old at 10 years old but may survive until it is 15 years old. The European Lynx is found in Northern Asia and are commonly found in the wooded part of Europe. They vary in color according to the geographical location. The color vary from reddish-brown with black spots, yellow-brown and brownish gray.The European Lynx eats Grouse, other birds, foxes and hares. CHEETAH
The cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world. The 7 sub-speicies of Cheetahs are the Acinonyx jubatus jubatus, Aciononyx judatus velox, Aciononyx jubatus velox, Acinonyx jubatus raineyii, Aciononyx jubatus sommeringii, Aciononyx jubatus hecki, Aciononyx jubatus venaticas, and Aciononyx jubatus raddei. The Aciononyx jubatus jubatus lives in South Africa. The A. J. velox lives in East Africa west of Kikiyou. The A. J. Raineyii lives East of Kikuyou. The A. J. sommeringii lives in Sudan. The A. J. hecki lives in Northwest Africa. The A. J. Venaticias lives in India or North Africa. And the A. J. raddei lives in Turkestan. The Cheetahs range from 4 1/2 to 5ft. long in length they have a 2 to 2 1/2ft. long tail. They stand 3ft. tall at the shoulder, and they weigh from 110 to 145lbs. The Cheetahs tawny or sandy brown fur. The Cheetahs have short fur except around the neck. The Cheetah's long tail helps the Cheetah to turn and it's claws are more like a dog's claws than a cat's. The Cheetahs rests among the rocks or tall grass. The Cheetah hunts during the day and it likes medium or small size antelope. The Cheetah stalks it's prey then, goes for the kill. The Cheetah at it's top speed came go 45mph per two seconds. At it's full speed it can run up to 70mph. They can not ran at this speed for more than a few hundred yards. The Cheetah has been in the past tamed and trained to hunt. This was done for century the rajahs of India. The Cheetah is mostly solitary animal. The largest group of Cheetahs seen together is 3. The Cheetah's had no fixed breed season. The females usually have 4 to 5 kittens, 84 to 95 days after mating. The Baby Cheetah's are born with long gray fur that has no spots. When they are 3 months old the Cheetah's get a new coat of fur and all the baby fur is shed. The average life span of a cheetah is 15 years. These cats are playful and friendly. DOMESTIC CATS



PERSIAN
The Persian cat has a compacted body and short thick legs. They have a short broad nose and some have peke-faced. These cats have a thick coats and around the neck is a ruff. The Persian cat has long glossy fur. The Persian is the most recognized cat. There coat requires daily grooming. They have a sweet and gentle temperament. In Britain the Persian is called the Longhair cat. The Persian cat is known for it's extremely long and fluffy coat.



SIAMESE
The Siamese cat can sometimes have crossed eyes or a kinky tail. These characteristic are consider to be a breeding faults. Siamese kittens are born with a white coat but as they grow there coat turns into a cream color with darker points like the adults. The Siamese cats are exceptionally vocal. The breed originated in Siam, this country is now called Thailand. The Siamese was introduced to the west in 1885 when a few of Siamese cats were given to England. After a few years the breed was introduced to North America.



MANX,
The Manx is a cat that has a stump of a tail or no tail at all. The reason this cat has little or no tail is because of a natural mutation. This cat has a very stocky and round appearance. It has a short back and long legs. The Manx is a medium size cat.



HIMALAYAN
The Himalayan cat is considered part of the persian breed. The breed was developed in England by crossbreeding a Siamese with a Persian. The Himalayan has eyes and fur color like the Siamese and it's head and long hair like a Persians. The Himalayan also has a placid temperament of the Persian. In Britain it is known as the Color point Longhair.



BALINESE
The Balinese is like the Himalayan in that it has long hair.It's fur is very fine and silky with the coloring of a Siamese. The temperament of the Balinese is similar to the Siamese. The Balinese was developed by the inbreeding long-coated Siamese.



ABYSSIAN
This cat is believed to the sacred cat of ancient Egypt This is a very Active, playful, and Inquisitive breed of cat. The Abyssian has a long slender body with gold or green eyes. The Abyssian is distinguished by it's coat of ruddy brown fur ticked with a darker brown or black. They also can have a red coat ticked with chocolate brown.



BURMESE
The Burmese is a medium-size muscular cat. It has sleekly and glossy satiny, or sable-brown coat. The Burmese cat has golden eyes. It is a affectionate and even-tempered cat. The The American breed of the Burmese is believed to be descends of a single female Bruma acquired by Dr. Josepth Thompson of San Francisco in the early 1930.



RUSSIAN BLUE
The Russian Blue is graceful,playful and has a quiet temperament. The undercoat is made of short hair that is dense and silky fur that is blue-gray. The long fur that makes the outer coat is silver-tipped that give the cat a overall silvery sheen. The name of the cat implies that the breed originated in Russia.



FARM CAT
The farm cat I am going to tell you about is my cat. My cat's name is Fluffy. He is lazy but can catch lots of mice. He is all white with long fur. He has front double paws, is loveable, and comes for dinner when you ring a little glass bell. He prefers to sleep on a rug or bed with a blanket on him. Fluffy poses when I take a picture of him. If he gets his paws wet he shakes his paws dry. Fluffy was kill in August of "97". I now have a new kitten. Mickey is black and white. Mickey is now 7 months old . He is as long as his mother was and wieghs 10 lbs.
