Heat — the same thing that you deliberately use to enjoy cannabis in some forms — is really rough on its integrity. High temperatures will degrade your flower, oil, and tinctures before you can enjoy them. Maintaining a fairly consistent temperature is best to ensure potency, so think carefully before stashing your stuff in the little cupboard above the stove. Humidity: Too much humidity is seriously problematic, creating an ideal environment for mold or mildew on flower and wreaking havoc on things like cannabis capsules. A dry spot — i.e. not the bathroom — is a good idea. If you live in a humid environment, consider investing in a fan or dehumidifier to keep things nice and dry. Light: There’s a reason your cannabis tincture comes in a dark bottle. Light degrades cannabis in most forms, so keeping your products in a cool, dry, dark place will preserve their potency. Storage Containers The old-school baggy may be convenient, but it offers zero protection from damage. Plus, they won’t mask odors at all. A dark glass or metal container will lock in smells, keep out moisture, and protect your stash from light. For some products, like capsules, cartridges, and oils, the original packaging will work well, assuming you can keep them in a cool, dark place. Your favorite cannabis dispensary will probably have recommendations and even products specifically for keeping your cannabis good and potent, not to mention inaccessible to kids and pets. You can also jump online and see what the cannabis community suggests. Either way, make sure you’re stashing your cannabis stash properly!
